[Early some September morning, a little package ends up on Fenris' doorstep. Within, is a new set of clothing - a soft turtleneck, a perfectly tailored pair of pants, and a thick autumn trench coat. Now that they've spent so much time together, Rue is all too aware that Fenris mostly wears his armor here and there, so let them provide him with something a little more casual to wear.
[Fenris picks up the package, reading the simply written note outloud in a quiet and hesitant voice. Curious, he unwraps the package and to find the finely made clothing inside. Brushing his fingers carefully over the fabric, he quietly wonders when the last time he owned clothing that wasn't just his armour.. quickly he realizes that he's not. Nothing other than the house coat which he feels a little silly owning.
No, this is the first thing he's own clothing wise... He's not sure when he will wear them - he doesn't feel safe here, doesn't feel he can go without his armour but - maybe next time he sees Rue he will wear them. Their residences are close enough together for that.
Running his hand over the fabric once more, a small tremor in his calloused fingers, he moves to a table in the kitchen that holds a few books. Some of them have blank pages in the front or back (which he doesn't understand the point of), so he rips one out and carefully scrawls a note back to leave on Rue's door. It reads in a very shaky careful hand, like someone is taking a lot of time doing something supremely unfamiliar to them:]
[It takes a moment, but Fenris picks up and sees it's Sarajane. He's surprised honestly, they haven't talked much, but regardless he finds himself glad to see she looks well enough.
Not that his broody expression gives that away. He's walking outside, looking a little wind rumpled.]
I am well enough, been dealing with the hunt that happens each night. I cannot sit idle and allow these spirits to kill people.
[A pause.]
I would be amendable to meeting up for a drink, perhaps another evening?
[ Hawke gives Fenris a wrapped present that looks more like a wad of various holiday papers got into a fight and lost to the tape holding it all together.
Inside though is a handmade leather journal and a hand written note wishing Fenris further luck on his endeavors to read and write and that Hawke will always be there to help. ]
[Fenris will smile while holding it, reading the note outload carefully. He puts the Journal in a safe place where it will get used often as he gets used to writing.]
[there's a basket with two different kinds of red wine and a homemade poundcake. a note is attached, 'if you eat the poundcake while drinking the wine, it's dessert!']
[At some point during the solstice, Steven leaves a tall bag at Fenris' door filled with blue and silver tissue paper. Inside, he'll find a bottle of vegan wine as well as an assortment of fuzzy socks with a small note attached that reads: For the colder months this time of year! - Steven]
( a package arrives wrapped in butcher paper and addressed to fenris from one james barnes. it's lumpy and shaped very strangely, full of oddly formed hard sides.
upon opening the wrapping, he'll find a set of whetstone bars of varying grit, a microfiber polishing cloth, and a small wooden figurine of a wolf that easily fits in the palm. the wolf seems to be decorated with familiar markings, and while likely not apparent to fenris directly, it fits comfortably against the fingers, thumb against the belly, and can to be used as a worry stone. there's also a packet of beef jerky included, for whatever reason. )
Have you been telling people nice things about me?!
[ Imagine starting what's practically this place's equivalent of a phone call with 'hi, how are you'.. Not Minako, apparently. Since she calls him, and the moment Fenris picks up, she will just blast that sentence at him.
At least the loud energy sounds more excited than anything else.. ]
[Well, that was unexpected, he didn't know what to think when he picked up his relic to answer the call, but this wasn't it. There is a pause of silence as he thinks about it. Oh yeah, he told Sarajane that Minako was a good person to know.
It's been a long day and arguably Cobb should go home.
He should get some sleep and wind down after a good celebration. Instead he finds himself walking away from home. He comes to find himself standing outside Fenris' door. For a moment he hesitates. It's late. He shouldn't bother the elf. He's probably sleeping. All sorts of reasons why he should just take his ass home.
But there's a longing in his chest that he can't bury deep enough to ignore.
Cobb knocks on the door nice and firm and then steps back so that hopefully Fenris can see him if he takes a glance out the window. If Fenris is home at all. He might just be making a fool of himself right now.
Fenris was practicing reading, carefully going over every letter and line as he traces his fingers across them, sounding out everything as he went. It was slow getting better at reading, but he was making his way through another book.
The knock startles him, making him wonder who could possibly be here at this time of night. But then his mind wanders to the first person he can really think of and well, he wouldn't mind the company.
Setting his book aside, he stands from the couch and makes his way to the door, opening it without looking first, hand on the hilt of his sword that sat next to the entrance. Though he lets his hand fall away at the sight of Cobb, exactly who he thought he'd see. He was dressed nice. Real nice. There was no hiding his appreciative look.
Fenris gets dressed in something more appropriate and heads that way after a bit. Part of him is surprised to hear from Cobb. He saw the man after the body swap, had him help him through the unnerving part of it, not wanting to be touched, just drink and commiserate with someone who would understand, who would know what it's like to have the one thing that should belong to him irrevocably taken from him again. At least it being Hawke made it better than it could have been.
Cobb had offered a suggestion though, one to look into getting rid of his chronic pain... it made him think about it since now he knew what it was like to not have it.
Regardless, he finds his way to Cobb's place and waves to greet the man as he approaches.
Hawke makes sure to deliver this one in person to Fenris' new home while that lanky corn man of his looks on.
"Here!" Hawke presents the mabari puppy with a big grin. "I know you've always admired the breed so it's about time you got one of your own. You'll take good care of her, I know."
Fenris opens the door and is very surprised to not only see Hawke, but also a puppy in his hands. With hesitation he takes the mabari from the man and holds her carefully like he's not sure how to handle the animal now that it's...she's his?
Blinking a few times at her, he looks at Hawke again, a rare soft smile on his face.
"Thank you, she's beautiful. I... you may have to educate me on her care as I've never had the company of an mabari of my own." This is gonna be one spoiled puppy as he turns to look at her again and touches his nose to hers.
[Fenris takes a moment to read the note before looking the dagger over. The heft is good, the balance as well, it was an exceptionally made dagger and the words on it ring true to him. Cobb knew just how to appeal to his heart.
Later, he is absolutely going to ride Cobb until he's sore and spent.]
delivered to his home, early september
Attached is a tiny notecard that simply reads:]
