Hawke makes sure to deliver this one in person to Fenris' new home while that lanky corn man of his looks on.
"Here!" Hawke presents the mabari puppy with a big grin. "I know you've always admired the breed so it's about time you got one of your own. You'll take good care of her, I know."
Fenris opens the door and is very surprised to not only see Hawke, but also a puppy in his hands. With hesitation he takes the mabari from the man and holds her carefully like he's not sure how to handle the animal now that it's...she's his?
Blinking a few times at her, he looks at Hawke again, a rare soft smile on his face.
"Thank you, she's beautiful. I... you may have to educate me on her care as I've never had the company of an mabari of my own." This is gonna be one spoiled puppy as he turns to look at her again and touches his nose to hers.
"It's not difficult. She'll help by being so smart. She'll tell you when she's hungry and when she needs to go out. You just have to teach her when to be aggressive and when to relax..." Hawke realizes as he's talking that he's done a lot of raising mabari by instinct more than by skill.
He looks at the puppy. "I'll see if I can get you a book about raising them. There's probably one in the library or one I can summon for you."
They live relatively close and he'll be there to help. "And your man knows how to raise animals. He'll be able to help. A horse is almost as big as a mabari."
Fenris listens with rapt attention, nodding and clearly making mental notes of everything Hawke is saying. The puppy squirms, but more to rest her head on Fenris' shoulder, giving a little dog sigh as she looks up at him.
"You need not trouble yourself, I can search the library well enough," he might ask Steven for help...
"But you are correct, both Cobb and she will teach me well enough how to provide for her," though he will be coming to Hawke about enough he's sure. His experience is limited to adult Mabari. But he's willing to learn.
"Take Steven. He loves a good book hunt." Because there's nothing his brilliant lover enjoys more than helping people find a book to read. Hawke is unaware he's reading Fenris' mind just a touch. "You can probably even bring the pup with you!"
Hawke's been able to bring Montoya with him everywhere. No one has asked him to leave him outside anywhere. It's very nice for a Ferelden like himself.
Hawke reaches out and squeezes Fenris' shoulder. "I believe you can do this. You'll be a good partner to her."
"I was considering to ask him, yes, he would know his way around such a place better than myself," Steven would enjoy it too. He sees the man often enough, but has yet to really hang out with him for a while now.
Things were awkward for a time, but they are better now. At least on his end they are.
Fenris smiles at Hawke's touch and nods. "I will do my best to be worthy of being per partner and earn her loyalty," he looks at her, seeing those big eyes watching him. "Revas," she tilts her head at him, butt wiggling some.
